For years, the only way to start a GLP-1 was a needle. That fact stopped a lot of people before they began. Now two pills have changed the picture. Oral Wegovy® was approved in December 2025, and Foundayo™ followed in April 2026. Suddenly the question is not "can I do shots." The question is which form fits your life, and what a pill does and does not change.

The short version: Two oral GLP-1 pills are now FDA-approved for weight management. In the ATTAIN-1 Phase III trial, people who stayed on the highest dose of Foundayo (orforglipron) lost about 12.4% of their body weight on average at 72 weeks, compared with 0.9% on placebo 1. Individual results vary. A pill removes the needle, not the need for a physician to manage your care.

A pill widens the door, and that matters more than it sounds

For many people the syringe was the whole barrier. Removing it is a real shift. Oral GLP-1 pills give physicians another option to match treatment to the patient in front of them, not the other way around. Some people do better swallowing a tablet. Some still prefer a weekly shot. Having both on the table is the point.

What exactly are Foundayo and oral Wegovy?

Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, a once-daily GLP-1 pill from Lilly, first approved in the US in 2026 and taken with or without food 2. Oral Wegovy is a once-daily tablet form of semaglutide from Novo Nordisk, approved in December 2025 34. Both are prescription medicines for chronic weight management. Both work through the GLP-1 pathway that affects appetite and fullness.

These are not casual purchases. They are prescriptions, reviewed and managed by a licensed physician. The delivery method changed. The medical seriousness did not.

Do the pills work as well as the shot?

The pills are a real option, not a watered-down one, but trials of different drugs enrolled different people over different time frames, so their averages are not a head-to-head comparison. Your physician can walk you through what the evidence shows for each option and what is appropriate for you. Individual results vary.

One more honest note. Trials are averages built from many people. Your number could land above the average or below it. That is normal, and it is exactly why follow-up care matters more than the headline percent.

What a careful provider tells you before you start

A good provider does not just hand you a pill and a price. They review your history, explain what to expect, set expectations using trial averages with the reminder that individual results vary, and stay reachable in the early weeks. Dose changes over time are physician-managed decisions, never something you guess at from a blog.

How do the two pills stack up?

PillDrug and makerUS approvalHow it is taken
Foundayo™Orforglipron, LillyApril 2026 1Once daily, with or without food 2
Oral Wegovy®Semaglutide, Novo NordiskDecember 2025 4Once daily, with timing rules around food and drink 3

Both are FDA-approved oral GLP-1s. Both still require a real prescription and real follow-up. The table is a starting point for a conversation with a clinician, not a verdict.

What about compounded medications?

Compounded GLP-1 medications are different from these branded pills. A compounded medication is prepared by a state-licensed 503A pharmacy under a patient-specific prescription. It is not a generic version of a branded product, and it is not the same product. If a provider blurs that line, treat it as a red flag.

The standard to demand is transparency. A trustworthy provider shows you the full monthly cost, what follow-up is included, and how to cancel before your card is ever charged. Full cost disclosed before checkout. If a brand cannot answer all three clearly, walk away. This is the standard sipra was built around. See how we handle it.
