Your thyroid is a small gland in your neck that helps set the pace of your metabolism, energy, and temperature. When it makes too little hormone, many people feel tired, cold, foggy, or notice weight and hair changes. These symptoms have many causes, so labs matter.

T4 and T3 are the hormones your thyroid normally makes. Treatment gives your body hormone to supplement what is missing. Your physician decides whether T4, T3, or both fit your labs and history.

Yes. Thyroid treatment is based on blood tests, usually including TSH and thyroid hormone levels, along with a physician review. You can share recent results, or your care team can help you get labs ordered.

Thyroid levels change slowly, so it can take weeks to feel changes and a few months to settle. Your physician may adjust your plan after follow-up labs. Individual results vary.

Too much thyroid hormone can cause a fast or irregular heartbeat, anxiety, trouble sleeping, sweating, and over time can weaken bones. This is why regular lab checks are part of care. Tell your care team about any new symptoms right away.

People with untreated adrenal problems, certain heart conditions, or an overactive thyroid may not be a fit. Pregnancy and some medications also change how thyroid treatment is handled. Your physician reviews your full history and makes the call.
