Vaginal DHEA, also called prasterone, is turned into small amounts of estrogen and androgens inside vaginal cells, which helps restore thinned tissue. A prescription vaginal insert is FDA approved for painful sex caused by menopause; a compounded cream is a different preparation and is not FDA approved. Vaginal DHEA commonly causes vaginal discharge. Report any vaginal bleeding after menopause. Your care team is there if anything comes up.
