Vardenafil

Vardenafil supports erection during sexual stimulation. It is not a treatment for low sexual desire. The dissolving tablet is a defined formulation, not evidence for every compounded capsule or troche containing vardenafil. A catalogue capsule name does not establish equivalence to an approved tablet. ¹

Nitrates and riociguat are incompatible with PDE5 treatment. Tell the clinician about long-QT syndrome, fainting, heart disease and rhythm medicines. Headache, flushing and indigestion can occur. A prolonged erection or sudden vision or hearing loss requires urgent assessment. ¹

Bring the actual pharmacy label and all other medicines, including ED medicines obtained elsewhere. Ask why this formulation was selected, whether the heart history changes eligibility, and what follow-up will determine whether the prescription remains appropriate.

Vardenafil deserves extra attention in people with congenital long-QT syndrome or medicines that prolong the QT interval. Nitrates, recreational nitrites and riociguat are incompatible because of blood-pressure risk. Alpha blockers and other antihypertensives can also contribute to dizziness or fainting. Bring an actual medication list, including antibiotics, antifungals, HIV medicines and rhythm drugs, because metabolism and rhythm interactions cannot be screened reliably from a general health summary. ¹

Conventional vardenafil tablets and orally disintegrating tablets have different instructions and should not be substituted by matching milligrams. A compounded capsule or troche is another distinct formulation. Confirm whether the product is swallowed, allowed to dissolve, or used another way and follow the exact label. If the effect is less than expected, do not repeat the dose early, change formulations or add sildenafil or tadalafil without clinical direction. ¹

Seek emergency care for an erection lasting more than four hours. Sudden vision loss, sudden hearing change, fainting, severe chest symptoms or signs of an allergic reaction need urgent assessment. If chest pain occurs after vardenafil, tell emergency personnel the medicine and last-use time before any nitrate is given. Palpitations or a new irregular heartbeat are particularly important when a person has a rhythm history or uses another QT-prolonging drug. ¹

An ineffective attempt can reflect timing, food, stimulation, anxiety, alcohol, relationship context or the underlying condition. It does not prove the dose is too low. Record the product and circumstances and discuss several attempts as directed before changing therapy. Repeating early or mixing PDE5 inhibitors can increase headache, low blood pressure and priapism risk without addressing the reason it did not work. Ask whether the underlying cardiovascular risk assessment is current. ¹
