GHK-Cu is a copper-binding peptide studied in skin-related laboratory research and marketed in topical and injectable products. It is not an FDA-approved drug, and those routes are not interchangeable. A cosmetic ingredient, a skin-penetration experiment and an injected preparation answer different questions; none should be treated as automatic proof of systemic rejuvenation or a prescription indication. 1, 2

What skin research can show

An ex vivo human-skin study evaluated retention and penetration of a particular copper-tripeptide preparation. Ex vivo means tissue studied outside a living person. Such work can inform formulation research but cannot establish a patient outcome, long-term tolerability or an injected treatment benefit. 1

A cream’s complete formula, concentration and intended cosmetic use matter. A finding for one preparation should not be attributed to every serum containing a copper peptide. The distinction between a cosmetic appearance claim and a medical treatment claim should remain clear.

Topical evidence has limited scope

The cited ex vivo study examined skin penetration under laboratory conditions. Penetration into skin is not proof that a cream reverses aging, grows hair, heals wounds or treats a dermatologic disease. Cosmetic appearance outcomes and drug-treatment claims also have different evidence and regulatory implications. A topical formula's vehicle, concentration, stability and application area can change exposure. Results from one laboratory preparation should not be generalized to every serum marketed as copper peptide. 1

Topical products and household use

A cosmetic GHK-Cu product is not an FDA-approved drug. Review the complete ingredient list because irritation may come from preservatives, fragrances, acids or other actives rather than the peptide alone. Avoid applying an unprescribed cosmetic to broken skin or an injection site, and stop for significant swelling, blistering, hives or worsening dermatitis. Claims involving hair regrowth, infection, eczema or wound treatment require drug-level evidence; a before-and-after photograph cannot establish cause or long-term safety. 1

Injectable GHK-Cu is a separate intervention

FDA lists injectable GHK-Cu among bulk substances with limited human exposure information and concerns involving immunogenicity, aggregation and peptide impurities. Noninjectable interim Category 1 status does not validate injection. An injectable blend with BPC-157, TB-500 or epitalon adds identity, sterility, compatibility and safety questions. Do not infer an injection amount from a topical concentration or endogenous copper biology. Fever, severe injection reaction, breathing difficulty or facial swelling after exposure needs urgent medical evaluation. 2

Copper biology is not a deficiency diagnosis

GHK binds copper, but a serum copper value does not establish a GHK-Cu deficiency or an indication for peptide replacement. Copper excess and deficiency have their own causes and risks. Do not add copper supplements or injections based on a skin or hair claim without evaluation. Product color and the presence of copper in the name do not verify concentration, stability or safe systemic exposure. 1, 2
