Are Mounjaro and Zepbound approved for the same conditions?

Zepbound is approved for chronic weight management in eligible adults and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. 1, 2

Both brands contain tirzepatide, but their approvals answer different clinical questions. A clinician should identify the condition being treated and the exact product prescribed.

Mounjaro’s blood sugar indication includes adults and children aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes. Its cardiovascular risk-reduction indication is for adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk. The Zepbound indications described here are for adults.

Does an ingredient overlap mean the instructions are interchangeable?

No. Verify the actual presentation and prescription. Product devices and dispensing instructions should be checked even when the ingredient is familiar.

Does an approved indication guarantee coverage?

No. Insurers can apply formulary and prior-authorization requirements. A prescription and a covered benefit are separate decisions.
