Knowing whom to contact matters as much as recognizing a symptom. Follow the Medication Guide for your exact prescription. The examples below use current Wegovy instructions and general emergency guidance; they are not a complete side-effect list or a way to diagnose yourself. Severe symptoms should not wait for an online appointment.

In this guide

Persistent digestive symptoms need attention

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach discomfort are listed adverse effects of Wegovy. Being listed does not make a symptom harmless. Its Medication Guide says to contact the healthcare provider right away when nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea does not resolve, because fluid loss can affect the kidneys. Report severe or continuing stomach problems too.1

Gallbladder symptoms

Upper-abdominal pain, fever, yellow skin or eyes, or pale stools are listed gallbladder warning symptoms. Contact the prescriber about them. A symptom list cannot confirm the cause, and severe abdominal pain needs immediate medical care.1, 3

Fluid loss

Thirst, dry mouth, darker urine, or dizziness can occur with dehydration. Confusion, fainting, no urination, a rapid heartbeat, or rapid breathing are reasons to get medical help immediately. Do not treat absence of urine as just a darker urine color, or wait for a universal hour-count threshold.2

Match the symptom to the stated action

For Wegovy, severe abdominal pain that continues means stop the medicine and contact the prescriber immediately. Back pain and vomiting are not required for this warning to apply. Sudden severe pain, breathing difficulty, or loss of consciousness needs emergency care. Call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.1, 3

Do not wait for every symptom on a list

Serious allergy can include swelling, a severe rash, trouble breathing, or faintness. Wegovy instructions say to stop and get medical help immediately for signs of a serious allergic reaction. A new neck lump or ongoing hoarseness is a separate reason to contact the clinician; it must not be used to explain away sudden trouble breathing.1, 3

Other care teams

Tell your prescriber if you use insulin or a sulfonylurea, because low blood sugar risk can increase. Ask for your own recognition and treatment plan. Tell the team about GLP-1 use before anesthesia or deep sedation; they decide the procedure plan. Do not improvise medication changes from this article.1

Keep a calm reference close.

Make follow-up easy to use

Before treatment begins, confirm the contact route for nonurgent questions, expected response times, and out-of-hours support. A portal message is not emergency care. Keep the medication name and last dose information available so an urgent-care or emergency team can understand what you are using without relying on memory.

Keep the right information close

Keep your Medication Guide, save the prescriber's contact details, and know where to obtain urgent help. Describe when symptoms started and whether you can eat, drink, and urinate normally. If a symptom is severe or rapidly worsening, get medical help rather than waiting to complete a symptom diary or hear back online.
